From humble beginnings in 1977, Nowra Chemical Manufacturers (Nowchem) has grown into an award-winning industry leader in the production of specialised chemical products.
Founded by well-known Nowra couple John and Fay Lamont and now run by their son John, the company produces more than 400 household and commercial chemical products which are sold in Australia, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Indonesia, China and Singapore. Employing over 70 people across two sites; manufacturing and distribution sites, Nowchem has won numerous awards including the 2019 Business Leader and Business of The Year awards and Excellence In Business, Excellence In Innovation, Excellence In Sustainability, Excellence In Workplace Safety, and Employer Of Choice awards.
The company is constantly innovating with products such as its award-winning organic baby care range Cherub Rubs which sells throughout Asia. It’s also very much part of the Shoalhaven community, offering internships to students from the Shoalhaven campus of the University of Wollongong keeping the business up to date with emerging industry trends. Nowchem also allocates more than $20,000 in sponsorships for youth education and allows employees paid time in the community each year. Nowchem also established the Inspire Youth Australia Foundation in 2014, to support local youth.
Yet it is our people that make the real difference and are responsible for our success. People like Eliza, who worked as a fruit shop cashier before she joined us, then worked her way up to become our Compliance and Risk Manager. Eliza also won Shoalhaven’s Young Leader of the Year award in the 2018
